Music by: Queen.

Director: Aaron Gibson. Musical Director: Callum Thompson. Choreographer: Lauren Shirley.

This is a fantasy, set 300 years in the future on the iPlanet formerly known as Earth. It tells the story of the dreamer, Galileo Figaro, as he tries to restore music to the world, with the help of Scaramouche and the Bohemians. This show is a jukebox musical set to the music of Queen. It’s filled with humour and lots of silly pop culture one-liners, very OTT, and the audience absolutely loved it.

Costumes were excellent and perfectly thought out, and these were finished beautifully by the wigs. Set design was so well done, with a raised platform at the back of the stage, accessed by steps on either side. There was a giant screen at the back, with ever changing scenery. This worked really well and it was easy to see how much work had gone into finding the perfect backdrops. The different levels added visual interest and gave the cast the opportunity to use different levels. Pieces of set, such as doors and screens, were moved on and off the stage. These, along with a full-sized motorbike, really added interest. Lighting and sound were seamless, and make-up was just fantastic.

Choreography was great. All the actors knew their moves and worked beautifully together.

Casting was so well done. It seemed that a lot of thought had gone into casting people perfectly, because they all worked so well together. This doesn’t happen by chance and is something that audiences can miss but it’s something that BMOS always seems to do so well.

Dan Smith made an excellent Galileo Figaro. He has a very strong voice. Charlotte Jervis was just fabulous as Scaramouche (or Scary Bush). She is a very strong singer and carried the humour beautifully. I thought Dan and Charlotte had wonderful chemistry, especially when they were singing together.

Fiona Farnsworth made a great Killer Queen. She had a wonderful menacing quality and she looked the part. Robbie Love was beautifully camp as Khashoggi, and he really made the part his own.

I loved Gavin Whichello’s Britney Spears. His voice was lovely. Heaven Okah was outstanding as Oz. She has such a beautiful voice, and I was awed by her. She has amazing stage presence and she and Gavin were brilliant together.

Mike James made a wonderful Buddy. He was completely believable in the role of the hippie and the audience loved him. I also very much enjoyed Jo Smith as the teacher.

The ensemble was excellent. Every one of them played their part beautifully, never letting their performance drop. They were always in character. The ensemble numbers were confidently and beautifully done and they all worked so well together.

The strong direction showed throughout the performance, as everything was seamless. It was completely polished and enjoyable from start to finish. The whole production team deserves congratulations for the faultless production. Crew and backstage roles can be thankless tasks, but a production this good can only come from a cohesive team.

We sang and tapped our feet all the way through, and virtually the whole audience was on its feet for the finale. The plot is thin, to say the least, but that doesn’t matter when it’s as well done as this was.

What an amazing night of theatre. Thank you so much BMOS.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to do the fandango.

Reviewed by Lesley L.

Alexandra Theatre. 10 June 2026 Story by: Ben Elton.
