Set in 1950s New York City, the story is a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet<\/em>. It follows two rival teenage street gangs \u2014 the Jets (white Americans) and the Sharks (Puerto Rican immigrants) \u2014 whose hostility and prejudice lead to tragic consequences. Amid the tension, Tony (a former Jet) falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Sharks\u2019 leader, Bernardo. Their forbidden romance sparks hope for peace but ultimately ends in heartbreak.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
