Anything Goes – SAOS Youth Show

Music and Lyrics by Cole Porter
The S. S. American is sailing between New York and England with a comically colourful assemblage of passengers: Reno Sweeney, a popular nightclub singer and former evangelist, her pal Billy Crocker, a lovelorn Wall Street broker who has come aboard to try to win the favour of his beloved Hope Harcourt (who is engaged to another passenger, Sir Evelyn Oakleigh), and a second-rate con man named Moonface Martin, aka “Public Enemy #13.”
Song, dance, and farcical antics ensue as Reno and Moonface try to help Billy win the love of his life.
This version, based on the 1987 Lincoln Center production at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, features a revised script, updated in light of contemporary sensibilities. In this version, the race of the characters is not pivotal to the plot. We encourage you to consider diversity and inclusion in your casting choices.
This 2022 Revision has twice as much dance music as the 1962 version and includes the hits “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You’re the Top,” “Friendship,” “It’s De-Lovely” and the title song, along with “Easy to Love,” “Goodbye, Little Dream, Goodbye” and “Buddie, Beware.”
Performing Musicals and Operettas in Stourbridge in the West Midlands since 1909
Stourbridge Amateur Operatic Society has, as you will see from the list of previous shows, performed an array of musicals and operettas. In more recent years it has become renowned for staging the more modern musicals, including Fame, A Chorus Line, Footloose and Our House which it has been able to do because of its youthful membership and its passion for energetic and fast-moving shows. However, the classics such as Anything Goes, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, Oliver! and Pirates of Penzance still make an appearance.
