One Act Bfame Results

First, a quick apology.

As this was our first year running the festival, it was perhaps inevitable that a few small errors would slip through.

While we do record all aspects of the peripatetic festival, we – like the audience – only learn the results of the One Act section as they’re announced live. Unfortunately, this meant that only the winners were noted at the time, and none of the nominations were recorded.

In addition, only the names of the theatre companies were written down, leaving this section missing some important individual acknowledgements.

We’d really like to put this right. If your name was missed, please email chair@bfame.co.uk – I’d be more than happy to add it.

My sincere apologies once again, and rest assured that next year we’ll make sure everything is properly recorded.

ALSO…

A few people have asked me: “Why on earth do a play about undertakers just before the awards night?”
Fair question!

There are two main reasons.

Firstly, we traditionally include some form of entertainment before the awards to, well—entertain! In the past, we’ve had comedians, magicians, barbershop quartets, and improv groups. This year, we chose a one-act play.

Secondly, and just as importantly, we wanted to show our peripatetic groups what a typical one-act festival entry could look like. Nothing too fancy—no big sets or elaborate costumes—just a few actors on stage, telling a story.

Hopefully it shows how simple it can be to get involved. We’d love to encourage more groups to take part, especially as entry numbers have been dropping lately. After all, it would be such a shame to see a competition with a 100-year history fade away.
That said, we’ve already had a great success story this year!

The Grange Players from Walsall—usually part of our peripatetic programme—joined the festival for the first time and performed Agatha Christie’s The Rats. And guess what? They only went and won The Apollo Shield and will now represent Birmingham in the Quarter Finals. On their first go! Brilliant stuff.
